I really like these whimsically style creatures of nature because the doodled illustrations allow me to choose any color, and I do not have to wonder if I am choosing the realistic colors. Inside this book you will find quite a few horses; however, the book is not limited to hooved mammals. There’s a delightful mixture of animate beings that include large birds such as peafowl, pelican, owl, rooster and others. There are also elephants, a longhorn sheep and cats, both domestic and wild. Oh yes, there is also at least one six-legged creepy crawler plus a sprinkling of water inhabitants.DESIGNS: The designs are printed one per page on white, fairly smooth paper with just the right amount of tooth. Some of the designs are whole body figures which have thin, bold line borders. Others are just a head view, and they do not have borders. All are centered on the page and do not slide into the binding. There are designs that can be very time consuming, and others not so much. Expert colorists should be very happy with the more intricate illustrations; however, there are also less detailed pictures that should appeal to the less experienced colorist. Some of the illustrations do require a steady hand and good eyesight. The lines are well defined, and the colorist does not have to guess at what they are coloring. Although much of this book is rather detailed, there are several pages that just might appeal to the YA.PAPER: The paper accepts most color media without a lot of dither. It feels smooth to the touch, but has just enough tooth to allow colored pencils to blend well and not clump up. It is neither very thin nor heavy, but it is a suitable weight for the designs.MEDIA: Colored pencils work well; however, some of the spaces are rather tiny so a pencil needs to have a really sharp point at all times. As a matter of fact, most of the designs do have some tiny spaces, so be prepared for some intricate coloring. Gel pens and markers will cause bleed-through, so do not forget to use a blotter under the page you are coloring.PAGES: The pages are not perforated, but the designs are centered on the page to allow for easy removal with a sharp cutting tool.BINDING: `The binding is glue bound, and holds up nicely. It is strong and yields well to pressure needed to insure flat pages for coloring ease. My book does have a glitch, in that the inside bottom corner of four of the pages were not caught in the binding and were folded under. Not a biggie, but just a bit annoying.COVER: The cover design is included which is always a plus for me. I was a bit confused about the cover because the head of a dog is illustrated on the front, and a horse is on the back of the book I received. Amazon shows the book the other way around. I believe the cover was changed, but Amazon hasn't caught up yet!
